Micheal Eddington was assigned to Deep Space Nine as head of Starfleet security, allowing him complete access to the station including a very high security clearance level. Eddington's position allowed him to become aware of all incoming and outgoing cargo before actually arriving at or leaving the station.
When Eddington discovered a shipment of industrial replicators destined for Cardassia he found that it was time for him to leave his Starfleet career behind for him to follow his beleif for what the Maquis were fighting for in the Demilirarised Zone (DMZ). The Federation colonists along the Cardassian / Federation border were being unfairly mistreated by their government, and had been declared an enemy of the United Federation Of Planets as they did not share the same objectives with the situation in the DMZ.
Micheal Eddington left Deep Space Nine after heavily influencing Captain Sisko to pursue his girlfriend Kassidy Yates to the Bad Lands in order to prove that she was a Maquis operative, thus taking both Captain Sisko and Cheif Of Security Odo off the station, leaving Eddington in charge.
Soon after joining, Eddington rose to become the leader of the Maquis.
Captain Sisko became obsedded with tracking down Micheal Eddington and bringing him before a Starfleet court martial for breaking his oath to Starfleet.
After Captain Sisko managed to capture the elusive Eddington, the Maquis were sluaghtered by the Cardassian / Dominion alliance in an attempt to purify the Alpha Quadrant, the Maquis had managed to launch a missile towards Cardassia Prime prior to their eradication.
Captain Sisko had to employ help from Eddington in order to destroy the missile before it could reach its intended target as the Cardassian / Dominion alliance would have retaliated with the Jem'Hadar for an attack against the Dominion.
Micheal Eddington died heroically holding back a squadren of Jem'Hadar soldiers from Captain Sisko, Mrs. Eddington and the contingent of Maquis Survivors. It cost his life to re-earn Captain Sisko's respect.
